Act Now to Stay on the EU Market after the UK’s Withdrawal
All companies placing chemical substances onto the markets of the European Union and European Economic Area need to prepare for the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU. New instructions are now available on ECHA’s website. ECHA recommends companies to prepare for a ‘no deal’ scenario ahead of the UK’s withdrawal on 30 March 2019.

Romania Hosts the Council of the Presidency of the EU

For the first time, Romania hosts the Council of the Presidency of the EU as of 1 January 2019, taking it over from Austria. The presidency of the Council rotates among the EU member states every 6 months. During this 6-month period, the presidency chairs meetings at every level in the Council, helping to ensure the continuity of the EU's work in the Council. The Presidency’s programme of work is shared by three Member States (the ‘Presidency trio’) over an 18-month period. The current trio is Romania, Finland and Croatia.

Safety Programs, Statistics & Brexit Take Center Stage at The BAF Annual Meeting

Paris, France - Thirty-four participants over a period of two days attended the General Assembly of the British Abrasives Federation (BAF) in Coombe Abbey (Warwickshire) on the 27th and 28th of September. Alex Henderson (George Jowitt & Sons Ltd), President of the BAF, chaired the meeting. Tony Day (Marrose Abrasives), the BAF Technical Officer, presented the main FEPA’s activities on standards and HSE lobbying.  Franck Verguet, FEPA General Secretary was invited to discuss the strengthening of the link and cooperation between the BAF and FEPA. Participants intensely discussed on products and user’s safety, the evolution of the abrasives markets in the UK and the national and European economic trends. During the meeting, John Willis (Tyrolit UK) was elected BAF President and Brian Harrison (VSM) Vice-President for a 2-years term.

Paris, France - An official statement from the European abrasives producers, members of FEPA regarding the use of VPI and SDS in Europe. Indeed, the abrasives industry provides ‘Voluntary Product Information’ (VPI) instead of ‘Safety Data Sheets’ (SDS) in Europe because abrasive products are defined as articles, not substances nor mixtures under REACH.
